Why Short Delivery Cycles for Products

Comments

David,

Nice article. We are working in same fashion and find it very effective and valuable. The related aspect to this is the whole eco-system one defines. Technology choices, documentation systems, project planning, bug tracking system .. everything needs to be aligned to this approach. Traditional approaches towards these also don't work.

For instance, we use a wiki for documentation, use SCRUM methodology for our planning, have a daily SCRUM standup meeting, and Ruby on Rails as our technology.

The base philosophy is to keep the short-term deadlines defined and play with scope. helps get things done and helps us play by our strengths. There are also additional challenges, as we keep the deadlines static and play with scope the speed of iteration to designs and priorities is very high, so it requires a very thorough effort to keep things from breaking. This becomes especially challenging when multiple people are involved. The process really needs to be streamlined.

Cheers
AJ
