Compelling Vision for a Large CMS Migration

Communicating & Sticking to the CP

To move a large organization and to ensure that the compelling vision (CP) is not diluted , much more is needed than a supporting vision statement and/or prototype.

- Conduct upfront observational research and visually capture desires, needs, wants and important insights.

- Weave the vision into visual stories/scenarios involving actual users/customers.  Add video walkthrough snippets interspersed with user/customer comments to show how the CP will meet the desires, needs, etc.

- Create advertising concepts and other visual promotions to help capture the eventual benefits of the CP.

- Evangelize all these CP work products to all stakeholders and supporters to help gain momentum, build excitement and gain commitment.

- Ensure that an executive decision-maker buys into and agrees to hold the organization to the essence and essentials of the CP.

- Ensure that the product/service development framework or methodology used by the organization adds "Alignment with CP" as a major launch check-off item, co-signed by executive stakeholder, product manager and user design chieftain.

I've seen way too many CP's end up ignored or otherwise compromised when a large organization faces the mad rush to meet a launch date or end of month financial goals.

Thanks Steve for your comment.  You make a lot of excellent points of how the compelling vision should be used to be successful.
